Dahlia hybrid 'Union Jack'
Common Names: Dahlia

Description:
Dahlias are at their best in late summer and autumn when many plants are fading. They offer opulent flowers with lush colors and astonishing forms, and the more you cut them for bouquets, the more they bloom.

An unusually old survivor, 'Union Jack' sports pinwheel-like single flowers of red with a white stripe down the middle—or entertaining variations on that theme. It's also unusually rare. The only other place you're likely to find it is in the British National Collection of Dahlias.

Recommendations:
Dahlias prefer full sun and rich soil. Blazing hot summers are hard on them, so consider them experimental in the Deep South. Yes, you'll need to stake them, but it's easy. No, you don't HAVE to dig and store them—at least it's not a law in Michigan. When they freeze dead, just add them to the compost pile.

Problems:
May need staked.
