The individual pea-type flowers are 1 inch long. It may flower in alternate years, or only on part of the tree. The bright green leaves are pinnately compound with 7-11 leaflets. Fall color may be yellow to gold. Fruit is a small, thin brown pod about 3 inches long. Requires a moist, well drained soil.
