Dennstaedtia punctilobula 'Hay-Scented Fern'
Common Names: Fern

Description:
Native to eastern N. America; leaves when bruised smell like fresh mown hay; named for German botanist of 18th century August Wilhelm Deenstedt; only the species exists and is a popular garden fern being very adaptable and tolerant of many conditions.

Fronds: lanceolate 3-5" wide, twice to tri-pinnate, pinnae toothed with irregularly cut margins or teeth, scattered hairs on rachis and stipe

Recommendations:
The attractive foliage and shape of this fern provide color, contrast and texture to the border or woodland garden when massed or planted as specimens. Also may be massed in moist soils near ponds or streams

Low maintenance, aggressive spreader under ideal conditions.

We like to use it with the dark bluish green hosta varieties.
