Athyrium hybrid 'Branford Rambler' Common Names: Fern

Description:

This hybrid Japanese painted fern is a cross between A. felix femina and A. niponicum 'Pictum'. It is a clump-forming, deciduous fern that features upright, dark green fronds growing to 24" with maroon to red central stipes (stems). Dense foliage forms an attractive ground cover for moist, shady spots when plants are massed.

Recommendations:

The attractive foliage and shape of this fern provide color, contrast and texture to the border or woodland garden when massed or planted as specimens. Also may be massed in moist soils near ponds or streams We like to use it with the dark bluish green hosta varieties.

Problems:

Leaf scorch can be a problem if soil is allowed to dry out
