Aesculus pavia 'Red Buckeye'
Common Names: Red Buckeye

Description:
Red Buckeye bears medium red flowers in the form of a candelabrum, in panicles 6-12" tall and 4-6" wide. The 5-fingered palmate leaves are like tiny umbrellas, and developing seed pods are very curious. Red buckeye becomes a small tree of 10-15' and prefers dappled shade such as that found at the woodland's edge. An eastern exposure is good; avoid a southwestern exposure because of possible leaf scorching. The flowers make unique additions to fresh spring flower arrangements. Native.

Problems:
Seeds which look like chestnuts are poisonous.
